this makes me incredibly homicidal:

I realize that most of my posts lately have consisted of whining, however I really just had to share my sense of injustice after I read this on Wikipedia:

Meyer had never written even a short story before Twilight, and had considered going to law school because she felt she had no chance of becoming a writer; she later noted that the birth of her oldest son Gabe changed her mind, saying, "Once I had Gabe, I just wanted to be his mom."[14] Before becoming an author, Meyer's only professional work was as a receptionist in a property company.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! anger.

ps, this woman is a BAD WRITER.

RIGHT!?

It's like every time I see anything Twilight I want to strangle not only the people who piled that steaming pile of rubbish but the people who read it.

Because there are so many other writers out there who DESERVE to be published and can't -- and, in order to ride the horse until it's a zombie -- even more undeserving, derivative writers will be published.

NO WORDS. (no polite ones at least.)

The woman's writing really is DREADFUL. It's really, really bad. I always knew the concept was eye-rolling despite some potential, and I was willing to try it, thinking that at least it would be one of those light-weight books that's not good but happens to be fun and page-turning.

no. my friend loaned it to me, saying i had to read it, and... no. it was so boring i had to make myself read it. i finally skipped most of the middle and jumped to the prom at the end. bad, bad, bad. I thought that was just my own observation but apparently it's not. Have you seen the "Alex Reads Twilight" series on youtube? He's hilarious, but also just another reminder of Meyers' complete lack of talent.

AND WHAT THE HELL is up with the older women who like it so much?!

other writers say she's a positive force because at least she gets girls reading but... is that like saying candy is good because at least it gets skinny kids eating?

yeah, end rant. i just can't believe that someone so talentless has such incredible success without even TRYING while GOOD writers suffer. damnation!! i don't want to be a trendy hater of such an innocent story but dammit i am.

I read Twilight the book when I came to California in 08. At the air port. And there was nothing else to read.

CAPTIVE AUDIENCE.

Guh.

I've seen people who actually think that she is a /good/ writer though and it just makes me despair. I'm not sure where I stand philosophically on how much objective and subjective "truth" or "goodness" there is in the world but surely, surely! people should be able to recognize utter crap when they read it.

That woman breaks every single rule in creative writing ever. I wish I remember the quote, but apparently Stephen King called her on her horrible writing and he instantly became my hero.

I love the Alex Read Twilight! So hilarious. I'm always checking up for a next installment.

No joke, but last spring semester I sat beside two women old enough to be my mother adoring Twilight. It disturbed me because I was like -- you want Edward -- the stalker, the manipulative possessor "boyfriend" to be your husband. HE PROBABLY WOULDN'T LET YOU GO TO COLLEGE BY YOURSELF.

Gets girls reading it? That's the stupidest thing I've ever because girls shouldn't be reading it! It's like the most anti-feminist, pre-50s values of objectified, agent-less women of the modern century.
